Redes Neurais (PPGEE)

This is an introductory course on neural networks that I have been teaching since 1996 for Electrical Engineering graduate students. It covers the main aspects of learning (in a broad sense) and applications of neural networks and related machine learning approaches.

Students are usually asked to write two papers during the semester, one in the middle of semester and the other in the end. The first one is usually application oriented and the second one is aimed at studying fundamental aspects of learning. Application oriented papers are usually aimed at some specific problems proposed by collaborators. In the previous semesters, applications were focused on Bioinformatics, Modelling of visual system and Biomedical Engineering, in collaboration with Roman Rouzier, René Natowicz, Jerôme Baron, Carlos Julio Tierra Criollo. Recent procedures generated in this course were:

Reconhecimento de Padrões (PPGEE)

This course was created by myself and Prof. Hani Camille Yehia based on Duda and Hart's classical Pattern Recognition book. The course offers an important preparation for other learning from data courses, such as the Neural Networks one.

It follows the same format of the Neural Networks course, on which students are asked to write two papers throughout the course, one in the middle of semester and the other in the end. The first one is usually application oriented and the second one is aimed at studying fundamental aspects of pattern recognition. Application oriented papers are usually aimed at some specific problems proposed by collaborators. Recent procedures generated in this course were:

Redes Neurais (Graduação)

This an introductory course on Neural Networks and Machine Learning that is offered for undergraduate students of Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering and Systems Engineering. The main goal is to provide basic concepts of Neural Networks and Machine Learning to undergraduate level. Theorical classes are combined with practical ones in the computer laboratories with the aid of scientific tools and languages like matlab.
