Luis Antonio Aguirre
Short Biography
Luis Antonio Aguirre was born in 1965 and again in 1980 (John's Gospel
chapter 3). He received a Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering from
the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais
(UFMG) in 1987. From early 1987 to August 1990, he was involved in the
modeling and control of an industrial boiler and in various aspects of
model approximation techniques. As a result of this work, in 1990, he received
a Master's degree in Electrical Engineering from UFMG. In September 1990
he joined the Department of Automatic Control and Systems Engineering of
the University of Sheffield as a research student. In August 1994 he received
a PhD degree for research in identification, analysis and control of nonlinear
dynamics. In October 1994 he joined the Departamento de Engenharia Eletrônica
at UFMG as a visiting researcher where he got a permanent position in August
1995. He has authored or co-authored over eighty journal papers and is
author of the book: Introdução
À Identificação de Sistemas: Técnicas Lineares
e Não-Lineares Aplicadas a Sistemas Reais (2a Edição).
He regularly serves as a consultant to the Government of Minas Gerais
State and to the Federal Government in the analysis of research proposals.
Also serves as a referee to various Engineering and Scientific Journals
(Automatica, Int. J. Control, IEEE Trans. Circ. Syst. I, IEEE Trans.
Educ., Trans. ASME, Controle & Automação, Journal of
Circuit Syst. and Computers, Int. J. Bifurcation and Chaos).
He is a member of Sociedade Brasileira
de Automática and Sociedade
Brasileira de Engenharia Biomédica.
He is married to Janete, and together enjoy the company of their three
wonderful daughters, Priscila,
Nerissa and Pauline (1999). More

Teaching and research projects supervision
Currently, he is also a member of PPGEE/UFMG (post-graduate center)
where he lectures courses to Masters and Doctoral students in Electrical
Engineering and also supervises post-graduate research. Over twenty post-graduate
students have successfully accomplished their research projects under his
supervision.
